Ron DeSantis: “I Will Not Take Your Bitcoin Right”

Ron DeSantis, the governor of the US state of Florida, announced his candidacy for president as expected. DeSantis made his announcement on Twitter Spaces, which was followed by more than 500,000 people live.

While technology investor David Sacks moderated the broadcast, which included many celebrities, including Elon Musk, DeSantis brought the topic to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in the middle of the broadcast. Stating that Bitcoin cannot be protected by central governments, the presidential candidate used the following statements:

When I become president, I will protect Bitcoin and similar assets. Of course this has risks, but people are smart and resourceful enough to make their own decisions. At least those who deal with Bitcoin are… People have every right to Bitcoin. The reason people in Washington don’t want or love Bitcoin is because they can’t control it. They want to gain control over society. Bitcoin also poses a threat to them.

DeSantis claimed that if current president Joe Biden is reinstated, he will likely kill cryptocurrencies:

Congress has never wanted to address cryptocurrencies. They have no intention of solving problems. That’s why they leave the job to subordinates. The current administration is completely against Bitcoin.
