Elon Musk's space company SpaceX has postponed the long-awaited DOGE-1 space mission to December for technical reasons.
The mission, which was first announced in May of last year, was reported to take place in the first quarter of 2022. However, although the specified period has come and gone, the mission has not been accomplished and no explanation has been given. In particular, Dogecoin investors were eagerly awaiting when this space mission, whose payment was made with Dogecoin, would begin.
Samuel Reid, CEO of Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC), which took part in the space mission, which was launched as "the first commercial lunar transport fully paid in Dogecoin", clarified the issue.
Why is it delayed, when will it happen?
Speaking to CNBC's space correspondent, Michael Sheetz, Reid stated that the IM1 spacecraft of the American space company Intuitive Machines was the primary payload and the timing was made accordingly, and that this was the reason for the delay. Reid also confirmed that SpaceX was paid for the DOGE-1 mission, but did not disclose the amount.
The first cryptocurrency to be used in space: DOGE
While announcing the news after appearing on Saturday Night Live, Musk stated that Dogecoin will be the first cryptocurrency to be used in space. For the mission, participants can book rooms fully funded by Dogecoin. Initially, the mission was set for the first quarter of 2022, and Musk promised to send Dogecoin "really to the moon." In addition, Musk's support for DOGE continues. The space mission announcement partially contributed to the meme cryptocurrency's meteoric rise in 2021. Despite the recent market correction, Musk confirmed that he continues to support the token by accumulating more.
Bitcoin investment also
On the other hand, SpaceX, in addition to being a company that receives payments with Dogecoin, also has Bitcoin on its balance sheet. In July of last year, Musk said that SpaceX, along with Tesla, also invested in Bitcoin, and stated that he personally owned Bitcoin, Ether and Dogecoin. The world-famous businessman promised to continue to support Dogecoin in the past weeks.
