The Bank of Spain plans to launch a central bank digital currency (CBDC) project. On Monday, the bank asked financial institutions and technology providers to submit their proposals in this regard by January 31.
According to the bank’s statement, the program will include simulating the use of CBDC in wholesale transactions. Wholesale transactions consist of the transfer of funds between banks and financial institutions.
On the other hand, it was stated that this program has nothing to do with the European Union’s research on the use of digital euro in individual shopping. The central bank of France also announced two projects on CBDCs that can be used in wholesale sales in September.
