South Africa's leading mobile network operator MTN has stepped into the world of the metaverse! Having bought 144 digital estates in the virtual world Ubuntuland, the company became one of the first South African companies to enter the metaverse.
South African MTN Group Limited is a mobile telecommunications company operating in many European and Asian countries, primarily in Africa. Headquartered in Johannesburg, the company is the largest mobile network operator in Africa and the 8th largest in the world. The main sponsor of the company, which operates in more than 20 countries, is the South African national rugby team and the English football club Manchester United FC.
It was not disclosed how much MTN bought the 144 digital plots, corresponding to 12 square meters in Ubuntuland. Bernice Samuels, MTN's group manager of marketing, praised Metaverse and explained how it fits into the Ambition 2025 strategy.

We have always been at the forefront of technological and digital changes and are taking firm steps towards capitalizing on the exciting opportunities that the metaverse presents to us and our customers.”
The mobile network operator has also demonstrated its support for African innovation with its presence in Metaverse. In addition, thanks to this presence in Metaverse, MTN aims to significantly increase customer attractiveness. In the report prepared on the subject, it was announced that this initiative will be crowned with a series of experiences combined with consumer passion points such as games and music.
