Linux Foundation Announces Metaverse Plan

The Linux Foundation has announced plans to create an open-source metaverse that it says can be “as effective as the World Wide Web” as long as companies, developers, and founders come together to achieve common goals.

The Open Metaverse Foundation (OMF) is divided into a series of groups called Core Interest Groups, designed to focus on different topics. These include topics such as transactions, virtual worlds and simulations, networking, security and privacy, and law and policy.

Multiple organizations and the open source community, including the ChainHub Foundation, OpenSDV, and Veriken, have come together to form the foundation, and each brings its own wealth of knowledge.

OMF Executive Director Royal O’Brien said in an announcement:

“As we prepare to lay the foundations for an open-source metaverse, it is clear that collaboration and solidarity are what we need to ensure security and stability in a hitherto largely unexplored online world,” O’Brien continues in his blog post. We will work together to discuss, identify and create the building blocks to make the new Metaverse concept a reality, encompassing digital assets, simulations, transactions, artificial intelligence, networking, security, privacy and legal aspects.”

In addition, the Linux Foundation is designed as a neutral environment for developers to share code and collaborate on innovative ideas, and is a comprehensive framework designed to harmonize technology, including the recently announced OpenWallet Foundation, which is designed to challenge the lack of interoperability between digital wallets. It has a project catalogue.
